Elden Byron Jensen, 75, of Coltman, Idaho, passed away March 7, 2015, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center of cancer. He was under the care of his family and Avalon Hospice.

Byron was born July 12, 1939 in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Elden Lee Jensen and Nola Ellingford Jensen. He grew up and attended schools in Idaho Falls and graduated from Bonneville High School. He is a lifelong resident of the Coltman area.

On July 17, 1959 he married Barbara Anne Schluter at the head of Birch Creek near Ririe, Idaho. To this union were born three children, Rick, Debbie, and Lance, and they also raised a grandson, Tim (Whitney) Jensen, for 18 years.

Byron worked as a truck driver for over 40 years for Gale Storer Trucking, Idaho Asphalt Supply, and then was self-employed.

He was named Idaho Falls Citizen of the Year in 1985 for his actions in saving seven people from an RV fire. Byron was honored with a Million Mile Plaque for his many years of safe driving.

He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Byron enjoyed hunting, fishing, and especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Byron is survived by his loving wife of nearly 56 years, Barbara Jensen; son, Rick (Patty) Jensen, of Idaho Falls, ID; brother, Brad (Pam) Jensen, of Boise, ID; sisters: Linda (Charles) Johnson, of Idaho Falls, ID, Alene (Duane, deceased) Hall, of Rexburg, ID, Carolyn (Darrell) Lacey, of Houston, TX, DeAne (Larry) Christiansen, of West Jordan, UT, and Kayla (Mike) Smith, of Coltman, ID; brother-in-law, Jerry (Bea) Schluter, of Ririe, ID; five grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elden and Nola Jensen; his in-laws, John and Mildred Schluter; a daughter, Debbie Jensen; a son, Lance Jensen; a sister, Tammy Jensen; two brothers, Spencer "Wayne" Jensen and Lorin "Craig" Jensen; a grandson, Justin Morris; and a granddaughter, Jessee Morris.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 13, 2015, at the Idaho Falls LDS St. Leon Building, 925 North 15th East, with Bishop Myron Creager of the Idaho Falls LDS Coltman 2nd Ward officiating. The family will visit with friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Wood Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge Avenue, and Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Ririe-Shelton Cemetery.
