Preston Isaac Pond, born in East Orrington, Maine in 1847, and a resident of Colville for the past ten years, died here Wednesday after a second stroke of apoplexy. The funeral was held from the Baptist church Friday morning, the Rev. George E. Kline of the Free Methodist church officiating. The deceased is survived by his widow, Mary E. (Malin) Pond; one daughter Mrs. Eugenia Brazington of Orin; and four sons; Rev. Francis E. Pond, elder of the Spokane district Free Methodist church; harry S. Pond, Galen S. Pond and Herbert G. Pond of Colville. Mr. Pond was a veteran of the civil war having answered the call of President Lincoln when only 15 years of age, serving with distinction through the conflict. After his discharge from the service he went to Pennsylvania, where he married and spent 30 years of his life n the lumber woods of the old Keystone state. He was industrious and taught his sons the religion of industry. He was an honest man and taught his children that honest was not only the best policy, but that it was supremely right to be honest.
