Wallace J. Davis, 89, of Grants, passed away peacefully early Friday evening, May 12, 2006, at his home following a lengthy illness.

He was born in Stillwater, Okla., on Jan. 19, 1917, to Jacob S. Davis and Ethel Ann Meyers Davis.

During his early years in Oklahoma, Mr. Davis worked in the oil fields. He moved to Grants in 1961 and was employed as a welder for Kerr-McGee before his retirement. He married his wife of nearly 15 years, Mac Block Davis, on May 25, 1991. He was a member of the Grants-Milan Protective Order of Elks and of the Central Baptist Church of Grants. He is remembered as a deeply caring person who will be missed by family and friends who cared for him.

Mr. Davis is survived by his wife Mac Block Davis of the family home in Grants; his two sons Melvin Davis and wife Tanya of Fruita, Colo., and Douglas Wallace Davis and wife Judy of Cortez, Colo.; his daughter Peggy Lou Pretti and husband Dennis of Grand Junction, Colo.; his stepson Dr. Michael Block and wife Becky of Seattle, Wash.; his sister Agnes Davis of Tulsa, Okla.; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and numerous nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents Jacob S. Davis and Ethel Ann Myers Davis; his first wife of many years and mother to his children Ora Emmabelle Jarvis Davis; his son Kelvin Davis; his two brothers Richard Davis and Robert Davis and his sister Barbara Jacob.

Visitation will take place from 3 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, May 17, at Grants Mortuary. Funeral services will take place at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 18, 2006, at Grants Mortuary Chapel with Pastor Lonnie Jordan of Central Baptist Church and Dr. Michael Block officiating. Graveside funeral services and interment will take place on Saturday, May 20, at 11 a.m. in Olivet Cemetery near Perkins, Okla.

Honorary pallbearers will include Andy Morrow, Billy Mcelroy, Lloyd Ashbaugh and Samuel Goldman MD.

The Davis family suggests that, in lieu of flowers, charitable contributions be made to Quality Continuum Hospice and Home Healthcare, 8001 Mountain Road Place NE, Albuquerque, N.M. 87110 in memory of Wallace J. Davis.

Grants Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
