Bonne Terre lost one of its oldest and most highly respected citizens in the death of Mr. David Blagg, which occurred at his home May 28th, 1924. Although he had been confined to his room for some time, his condition had not seemed alarming until shortly before his death.
The deceased was born in Carmi, Illinois, December 14, 1840, and was therefore aged 84 years, 4 months and 14 days.
He was happily united in marriage to Miss Ellen Berry of Quincy, Illinois, in the year 1873. To this union six children were born, four of whom survive, Harry Blagg of Festus, Mo., Mrs. J. M. Radle of Bonne Terre, Mo., Mrs. W. M. Brunk of St. Louis and Ed Blagg of St. Louis. He also leaves one brother and nineteen grandchildren.
Mr. Blagg became a member of the Germany Baptist church in 1906 where he remained a member until last year, when he moved his membership to the Bonne Terre Baptist church.
The funeral service was held at the Baptist church Friday afternoon at two o'clock and was attended by a large crowd of sorrowing friends and relatives. Interment took place in the Bonne Terre cemetery.
The deceased was a devout Christian and a loyal member of his church, a true companion and a loving and indulgent father. His passing is a crushing blow to the family and a great loss to the church and his neighbors and many friends.
The community joins in extending sincere sympathy to the heartbroken wife and children in their great sorrow.
