Joseph served as a Staff Sergeant & Tail Gunner on B-17 #42-30015, 366th Bomber Squadron, 305th Bomber Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Ohio prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on August 17, 1942 in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Bookkeeper and/or cashier and also as Single, without dependents.

Joseph was "Killed In Action" along with 8 other crew members when his B-17 was shot down by enemy aircraft and crashed near Rastede, South of Oldenburg, Germany during the war.

He was awarded the Purple Heart.

He was originally in Europe and was later repatriated here on June 6, 1949.
