❦ Early Life: Thelma was born March 29, 1922, to Joseph Earl and Judith Maria Wiberg Morgan, the second of four daughters, in Riverton, Utah, where she was also raised.
❦ Life's Work | Service | Interests: She attended Stevens-Henager College prior to serving her country as a quartermaster during World War II as one of the first women Marines. Following her discharge, she served as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Eastern Canadian Mission. While a missionary, she met her eternal companion, a fellow missionary. On March 21, 1949, she married Bryce Bentley Orton in the Salt Lake Temple. They are the parents of five children. Following his schooling, in 1961, they established a permanent home in Provo, Utah. She devoted her time to her family and the Church. She accompanied her husband as he presided over the New York Rochester Mission from 1981 to 1984. Later, they served together as full-time missionaries in the Mexico Guadalajara Mission. For many years, first with her husband, and then by herself following his passing, she was a service missionary at the Missionary Training Center in Provo. Thelma Morgan Orton passed away peacefully on February 16, 2015, at the home of her daughter in Tempe, Arizona. She was 92 years of age.
❦ Survived By: Four of five children: Brent (Marla) Orton, Debra (Lee) Clegg, David (Lori) Orton and Chad (Elizabeth) Orton. 27 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren, and her sister, LaRee (Emory) Sonderegger.
❦ Predeceased By: Her husband; her daughter, Pamela (Garth) Christensen; two premature great-granddaughters; and sisters, Lucille Anderson and Nila Huffdaughter.
