Granddad Hoover was born 97 years ago on June 22, 1902. He was born at home on the family farm in the Star Center Community northeast of Harper, Ks. Hoyt Emerson was the name chosed for their first child, by his parents: Melville Leeman Hoover and Iva Poe Hoover.

Granddad's education included grade school at Star Center, high school in Harper and classes at the Norma College in Harper.

The oldest of seven children, Granddad's siblings were Guy, Ellis, Bob, Forrest, Herb and Hazel Hoover. The Hoover brothers wee hard workers, and were known for their wonderful musical talent. They joined together to form a vocal quartet which gave pleasure to each of them as well as to the many who loved to hear them sing.

Granddad lived at home with his parents until his marriage on October 17, 1923 to Nora Irilla Newton. He and Grandma were married in Anthonyand celebrated 67 years of marriage before her death on August 11, 1991. They made their home in the Star Center Community for 55 years before moving to Harper in 1978. Granddad's chosed profession was farming He also milked and raised cattle.

To this union was born a son, Jack Edwin Hoover, On October 27, 1927. Live was busy attending activities and sporting events that Jack was involved in, especially baseball games. Jack like Granddad, inherited the Hoover family's ability to sing.

Baseball was truly Granddad's favorite sport. He was seen on many occasions listening to one game on the radio while watching yet another on the television.

His other great love in life had to be fishing. Granddad would grab his pole and tackle box and head for his favorite fishing hole for as many years as he was able. Stan says that if Granddad Hoover could catch it and clean it...Grandma Hoover could cook it.

After moving into the Harper Hospital's extende care unit, one group activity was a fishing trip. Granddad's enthusiasm about "catching the big one" amazed the nurses.

Another milestone in Granddad's life, was Jack's marriage to Pearl Marguerite Scheibe on Septembe 11, 1948. To this union were born two children that brought much joy to Granddad his entire life. Connie Jean an Stanley Clark also inherited Granddad's love of music and like Granddad, have also shared it through voice and instrument in service to their Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. His example has touched us all.
