George Washington Musick was the son of John Wesley Musick and Isabella Harris. He was the husband of Catherine Hawk, who predeceased him, and of Rachel C. Minnick. He was the father to 21 children, 17 of which survived to adulthood.
George served in Company A of the 39th Kentucky Infantry (Union Army) during the Civil War. He and his brother, Michael Fleenor Music and Thomas McCullough Music served in the same unit until the end of the War in 1865. Their brother, Abraham Music was a soldier for the Confederacy (5th Kentucky Infantry and later 13th Cavalry).
