Beloved mother and grandmother. Genevieve, or "Gene" for short, was the daughter of Charles James Ingels and Rozetta Jane Lewis, born on August 15, 1909. She married accountant Virgil Dresser Manes in Chicago on June 1, 1935, living in Elmhurst, Illinois, and had one daughter, Judith. Virgil passed away on April 3, 1967. Genevieve worked as a medical receptionist for some 20 years in Elmhurst, retiring in 1973. In 1979, in the summer after a major snowstorm, she moved out to California to live near her daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren. She lived in Berkeley ever since, taking time to travel, attend plays, and volunteer at the First Congregational Church. She led a long, happy and healthy life surrounded by loving family, and was always filled with stories of her life's experiences and the people she knew. She passed away suddenly and peacefully early in the afternoon, May 12, 2006, having attended a play the evening before, as she loved to do.
Her ashes were buried next to her husband Virgil Manes in Greenmount Cemetery on April 26, 2007.
