| Birth: | Jan. 4, 1935 | | Death: | May 11, 2006 |  Professional Boxer. Heavyweight champion from 1956-1959 & 1960-1962. He won the middleweight gold medal during the 1952 Summer Olympics. Trained and managed by Cus D'Amato from a teenaged amateur boxer to the youngest world heavyweight boxing champion and first in boxing history to successfully regain the heavyweight title. He became the youngest World Heavyweight Champion after knocking out Archie Moore in the fifth round on November 30 1956. He lost the title to Ingemar Johansson on June 26 1959, but defeated him in a rematch fight on June 20 1960. He was stopped by Sonny Liston in round one on September 25 1962. He also lost to Muhammad Ali during an attempted comeback in 1965. He retired from boxing in 1972. In later years he managed his adolpted son Tracy Harris Patterson's boxing career. He became chairman of the New York State Athletic Commission. His career record in 64 fights is 55 Wins, 8 Loses and 1 Draw. (bio by: C.S.)
