SWAN QUARTER - Elsie Gray CARAWAN, 77, died Thursday, March 30 at Pitt County Memorial Hospital following a short illness. Born in Hyde County, she was the daughter of the late Robert B. and Clydia Jones Gibbs and was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie E. Carawan.

Mrs. Carawan was owner/operator of Carawans Motel and a member of the Swan Quarter Baptist Church.

Surviving are her daughters and sons-in-law: Patty and Coy Buck, and Elaine and Gary Mayo of Scranton; her sons and daughters-in-law: Robert E. and Marian Carawan, Charles A. and Sharon Carawan, Donald D. and Kerry Carawan, Phillip R. and Melony Carawan, and Mark and Lisa Carawan, all of Swan Quarter; 12 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, April 2, at 4 p.m. in the Swan Quarter Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the Soule Cemetery with the Rev. Robert Crisp and the Rev. Richard Bartholomew officiating.
