Jessie Malone Blake, 106, of Atkins, formerly of Dardanelle, passed away on Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at Atkins Nursing and Rehabilitation Cnt in Atkins, AR.

The daughter of Robert Lee and Matilda Elizabeth Wilson Malone, she was born May 29, 1908 in the London Mountain Community, AR.

After her mother’s death when she was very young, she was raised by her loving step-mother, Addie Duvall Malone of Russellville.

She spent most of her early life in Pope County, living in the Russellville and Moreland area. From 1941 to 1959 she lived in Delaware and Dardanelle where she cared for the family with time, energy and money.

Jessie was a second mother to her niece, Rachel, from birth until her graduation from Dardanelle High School. In 1959, she moved with family to Memphis where she tirelessly cared for a very sick sister and elderly step-mother and helped raise her brother’s three children (always with a smile on her face) she was a super aunt.

After the death of her step-mother and sister, she returned to Dardanelle where she purchased a home with her niece Rachel.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Ben Blake; two brothers, Arnold Malone & Louie Malone; three sisters Cammie Virden, Keith Cox and Ella Rea Vandiver; niece, Rachel Cox of Dardanelle.

Survivors include nieces and nephews, Jaunita Barber of Russellville, Betty Elliot of Russellville, Mary Jane Blount and Arnold Malone both of Southaven, MS, Terry Malone of Nashville, TN, Wilson Vandiver of Conway.

Jessie was always interested in gardening and her flowers, She raised a garden each year until she was ninety-seven. She made arts and crafts for her nieces and nephews. She was an excellent cook. Jessie had a very sharp mind and read her newspapers daily without glasses even when over 100 years old.

Graveside Service will be held at 2:00PM, Saturday, February 14, 2015 at East Point Cemetery in Russellville, AR by Humphrey Funeral Service.
