Services for Vergie May Rankin Garmin, 88 of Wilder, who died Monday, Oct. 26, in the
Caldwell hospital of natural causes, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Dakan Funeral
The Revs. Sam Hendrix of Medford, Ore., and Kenneth Pitts of Homedale will officiate.
Burial will follow at the Wilder Cemetery.
Mrs. Garman was born Sept. 3, 1899, at Portland, Rice County, Kan., to Warren and
Stella Batterton Rankin. In 1908, she came with her parents to Meridian, where she
attended grade school at Five Mile Community for a few years. The family returned to
Lyons, Kan., where she completed her education.
She worked as a nanny for the Roy Taylor family at Lyons. She came to Wilder in 1921,
to live with an aunt and uncle, May and George McKinnis. She was employed at Roeder's
Variety Store at Wilder.
She married Russell H. Garman Dec. 7, 1924, at Fruitland. They celebrated their 60th
wedding anniversary in 1984. They had spent their entire married life living on the
Garman Hill south of Wilder. Mr. Garman died Nov. 12, 1985.
She was a member of the Golden Baptist Church, the Fargo Ladies Club and the
September Birthday Club.
She was active in many community activities and fund drives. She enjoyed baking
birthday cakes and was a talented seamstress. She was a volunteer at the Idaho State
School and Hospital in the sewing department for many years.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Houston and Nadine Garman of Wilder;
three daughters and sons-in –law. Helen and Glenn Karn of Boise, Hester and Gail Tuttle
of Homedale, and Harriet and Jene Ambrose of Ogden, Utah; two sisters, Helen (Mrs.
Francis) Reed of Little River, Kan., and Evelyn Wuthnow of Lyons; 14 grandchildren; 15
great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two infant sons.
Memorials may be made to the Wilder Paramedics, the Greenleaf Friends Academy
Scholarship fund, a favorite charity or flowers may be sent.
Friends may call at the Caldwell Dakan chapel today from 4 to 8 p.m.
