Death: Jun. 25, 1949

My paternal grandmother,Bertha Leona Sidell, was the mother of six sons and seven daughters. The son were John Howard,Joseph Freeman,Raphael Roger,Gilbert Elwood,Samuel Thomas(my dad),and Roy Colvin. The daughters were Margaret Serepta,Effie Alma,Matilda E,Bertha Lee,Ida Mea,Elizabeth, and Nanny Grace.Preceding her in death were three of her children.Elizabeth, and Nannie Grace died of TB when they were teenagers.Serepta died of cancer.also suriving her were my grandfather(Rapheal),and many grandchildren.
Grandma and Grandpa lived on a farm in Bracken County,Kentucky as did i.Almost every sunday our family and several of my dads brothers and sisters, together with thier families, would gather at their house for lunch. These were very happy occasions.I remember especailly the lunchs(which in those days we called dinner)first to eat were my grandmother and the men,at the second table were my the women.Third were the children, all of whom had been playing outdoors while the adults ate.
I was probably one of my grandma's favorites,I remember she was concerned that i did not weigh at least 100 pounds when i was in the 8th grade. Also, somtimees during summer vacation i rode my bicycle from our house to my grandparents house and stayed a week with them.I had no contact with my parents for a hole week since we had no telephone in my house.I remember especially the ice cream she made in ice cube trays.I also remember many hours we spent playing chinese checkers.
I also remember the toilet situation. There was some sort of tiolet in my grandparents's house(my family had none) but water was scarce and so the men and boys were usally espected to use the outside privy in which the toilet "paper" was Sears Roebuck Cataogs, when avaible-otherwise corncobs.

This bio was writen by her grandson Thomas E Todd and was entered in this memorial by her greatgrandson Bryan G Todd
