Charles Orval House, age 99, passed away on Saturday, February 7, 2015 in San Antonio, Texas.

Charles was born on September 28, 1915 in Alicia, Arkansas to Littleton and Iley House. He grew up on the family farm near Mount Vernon, Arkansas. Charles spent a year with the Civilian Conversation Corps (CCC) before enlisting in the United States Army in 1935.

He was appointed as a Warrant Officer in 1942 and received a direct commission as a First Lieutenant in the Army Medical Service Corps in 1948. He retired from the Army after 30 years of service in 1965 with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and then worked for 10 years in the U.S. Civil Service before his second retirement in 1975.

His assignments, while on active duty in the Army, included Fort Riley, Kansas; two tours in the Philippines during and just after World War II; Stuttgart, Germany; three tours at Fort Sam Houston, Texas; and Puerto Rico. He was a member of the National Sojourners.

He was married to his first wife, Mary Elizabeth (Daley) House for more than 62 years until her death in 2003.

He was preceded in death by his son, John Kennard House and his second wife, Mary Lou (Graham) House.

Charles is survived by his daughter, Jean House Brock and her husband, Dan; son, Richard Charles House and his wife, Nancy; six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, five sisters, and one brother. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 15, 2015 at Porter Loring North.
