Jessie D. (Vance) Carter, was the daughter of M.D. and Margaret (Duff) VANCE. The family moved from Mississippi to Arkansas, before the Civil War, and then afterward, on to Indian Territory/Oklahoma. She married Charles Carter in I.T., but the marriage failed. She worked for her father in the office of a wholesale grocery business in McAlester, OK. In 1900 I.T. Choctaw census, she was in HH with her father, M.D. Vance, her mother having d. in 1897.
In 1908, when he died, she was caring for her ill father. (per his obit) and she later moved to Texas where her brother, Patrick A. Vance and family had located in Altacosa, TX near San Antonio.

We know that Patrick's wife, Ella, died in Texas in 1927, and she was interred in McAlester, OK. Jessie continued to stay with Patrick. He signed her death certificate, and reported on it that her body was sent to "Pleasanton."
I've been unable to determine if she was buried there, since Patrick had sent Ella back and he himself was sent to McAlester after his death? The records of Funeral Homes in McAlester do not have records, neither, does the records for the FH on the TX D/C as they didn't reach back to her DOD --(per ph call.)

Jessie had carcinoma of the uterus and some senility...perhaps the cancer spread.
She was 68 yrs, 4 mos, and 6 days. Her Occ on the D/C was "Housekeeper."

Note: Her memorial is placed in this cemetery as noted on D/C...but if more evidence shows she was interred in McAlester, her memorial will be moved.
