Graveside services for Laura Ransom, age 106 of Denver City, Texas will be held Saturday, February 7, 2015 at 10:30 am. at Denver City Memorial Park with Pastor Harold Brown officiating All services are under the direction of Boyer Memorial Chapel in association with Boyer Funeral Home of Seminole, Texas. Mrs. Ransom was bom April 16. 1908 in Atoka, Oklahoma to Sidney Jane (Clark ) and Benjamin Larkin Rutherford. In her early years she lived and worked in Oklahoma and California. She returned to Oklahoma and married longtime friend, Clyde Ransom. Together they owned and operated Ransom Photography studio. After retirement, they moved to Pampa, Texas where they resided until his death, Laura was a very caring, giving and compassioaate person with wonderful sense of a humor. She was a survivor with a zest for life. She loved to knit and created many beautiful things. She also loved to sing during church services and special events at Shinnery Oaks. Laura was an active member of the Eastern Star atteaded The Church of the Nazarene. In 2004 due to declining health, Laura along with her daughter Ovela, moved to Denver City to be her niece, Myrl Sentz, and other family members near. Mrs. Ransom passed away Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at Shinnery Oaks Nursing Home in Denver City, Texas. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, her daughter Ovela Mae Jones; and four sisters, Dovie Russell, Beulah Bobaman, Lilly Mathews, and Bonnie Williams.
Laura Ransom is survived by two grandchildren. Janet Goodin and her husband Jim of Chino Hills, California and Mike Jones of Arizona, three great-grandsons, Joseph, Jason, and James Goodin; six great-great-grandchildren to whom she was "Nana;" two nieces, one nephew, Eugene Russell; and numerous great-nieces Myrl Slentz and Virginia and nephews, to whom she was "Aut Am. The family also wishes to acknowledge the Shinnery Oaks Community for the excellent care Laura Ransom received during her years of residency.
