Chester was 101 years old; he renewed his driver's license at 100. He was married to his Bessie for almost 70 years. She preceded him in death in 2008. Together they were survived by five children, 21 grandchildren, 58 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren. He was survived also by his sister, Ruth.

Chester was the son of Hyrum Erastus and Inger Sorensen Christensen. His mother passed when he was young, and his stepmother, Edna Rawson Christensen, was instrumental in rearing him. He was a dry farmer and custom grain cutter. Except for two seasons working on the Shasta Dam construction and an LDS mission he and Bessie served in West Virginia, he lived his entire life in Bear River City.

Always active, Chester loved sports, fishing, hunting, as well as hanging the holiday lights and keeping the loveliest yard in Bear River City. Chester loved his country, and served in the Army National Guard during World War II.
