Kay L. Hevelone, longtime Flagstaff resident, passed away on January 18, 2015 in Arlington, Texas; she was 91. Kay had been hospitalized briefly as a result of complications from a recent surgery. Born and raised in Peru, Indiana, she came to Arizona in the early 1950’s.

Until her retirement in 1988, she was a legal secretary, working with H. Karl Mangum and others for a number of years before moving into the medical profession as part of a radiology practice, then on to positions with NAU and ADOT.

Until relocating permanently to Arlington four years ago, she had been spending summers in her beloved Big Cedar Ranch home near Winona and the winters with family in Texas or Mississippi. She had continued to live independently, enjoying her family, gardening, avid interest in current events, daily newspaper crosswords, Flagstaff happenings in the Daily Sun via internet, reading, and her dog Styx, until the very last days.

She was preceded in death by husband, Wesley (Wes) Hevelone, and nine siblings. She is survived by daughter Cedar Arendale, Horn Lake, MS; and sons Jim, Ten Mile, TN; DeWayne, Mendon, MA; and Kerry, Arlington, TX. Mrs. Hevelone’s extended family includes five grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Her family will always remember her gentleness, her devotion, and her love.

Gravesite memorial services and burial will be at 11:00 AM Tuesday, February 3, next to husband Wesley, in Flagstaff’s Citizens Cemetery.
