Professional Hockey Player. John "Crutchy" Morrison was born in St. Clements, Manitoba, and played his earliest hockey for local Selkirk Fisherman. He enlisted with the 61st Battalion in August 1915. The 61st organized a hockey club in the Manitoba senior league and Morrison won the 1916 Allan Cup with that team. "Crutchy" served out his wartime committment with the 11th Reserve Battalion. After the war he when back to playing hockey in Western Canada. With the Edmonton Eskimos (1921-25) he appeared in a Stanley Cup final series. In 1926 his contract was bought by the New York Americans and he made his National Hockey League debut. Morrison returned to the west after one season to play for the Regina Capitals (1916-27), Duluth Hornets (1927-29,1931-32), St. Paul Saints (1929-30) and Buffalo Majors (1930-31). John Morrison returned to Selkirk after his professional hockey career. He turned his attention to youth golf and was the organiser of various tournaments. Morrison, husband of Doris, passed away at his home in Selkirk, Manitoba. (bio by: 1weasel)
