William is believed to be the son of Richard Sims (1676-1746) from Isle of Wight Co, VA, and Joanna Birdwell b. 1678.

He first married on 6 Aug 1751 in Orange Co, VA to Anestar Stapp.
They were the parents of Elizabeth b. 1752, Mary Jane b. 1756, & Lucy b. 1758.

Following Anestar's death in 1759, he married on 2 Feb 1761 to Agatha Bertha Robinson. They were parents of Joannah b. 1761, John b. 1762, Rosamond b. 1764, Nancy b. Feb 1765, James b. Dec 1765, William b. 1766, Annestar b. 1768, Agatha Agnes b. 1769, Francis b. 1770, Mary b. 1773, Frances b. ??, and Richard b. 1787.

I have not found any evidence to indicate that James Sims b. 1755 is a son of William and Anestar, or his 2nd wife, Agatha.
