CORINTH - June A. DeAlmeida, 97, died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, at Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin.

She was born April 23, 1915, in Corinth, the daughter of Archie and Emma (McLaughlin) McCullough. She grew up and attended school in a one-room schoolhouse on the West Hill in Chelsea and graduated from Chelsea High School in 1933.

After high school, she moved to Connecticut, where she worked for Pratt & Whitney Co. making aircraft parts during World War II. She also worked for Rock of Ages Co. and Sprague Electric Co., both of Barre, and the Chelsea Nursing Home in Chelsea.

On Oct. 10, 1945, she married George DeAlmeida and they lived all their married life in Corinth. George died on Sept. 29, 1980.

June was a member of the 251 Club of Vermont, visiting the state's 251 towns and cities with her friends, Winnie Bacon and Winnie Gilman. She was a Girl Scout leader when her daughters were young. She enjoyed growing and picking wildflowers, making stationery with them, and took pride in knowing the Latin botanical names for each flower. She also enjoyed cooking, hiking, bird-watching and everything about nature.

She is survived by a son, Ronald DeAlmeida, of Corinth; two daughters, Deborah DeAlmeida, of Corinth, and Martha Ward, of Newbury; two grandsons, Carl DeAlmeida, of Newport News, Va., and Calvin DeAlmeida, of Washington; three great-grandchildren, Anna, Gavin and Gage; a sister, Betty Colby, of Chelsea; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, George; five brothers, C. Clifton McCullough, Stanley McCullough, Archie McCullough, Wayne McCullough and Dwight McCullough Sr.; and a sister, Harriet "Hattie" McCullough.

There are no public calling hours. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013, at 2 p.m. at the United Church of Chelsea in Chelsea, with pastor Tom Harty officiating.
