h/o Sarah Leinbach f/o Henry L., John F., Elizabeth Cameron (Hittle) Wagner Prentice, & Mary A. Lockhart s/o John Hittle & Anna Maria Truckenmillmer.

1901: Mr. George Hittle an old and highly respected citizen of Prairie City, passed away on Saturday evening, March 10th, (16th) in the 89th year of his age. His physical strength had been failing for a considerable length of time; less from disease than from the natural decay of the vital functions of the body. His final departure was much like the quiet going out of the lamp of life.
Mr. Hittle was born in Montgomery county, Pennsylvania, July 25, 1812. In early life he became a member of the Lutheran church. He was married Feb. 8, 1838 to Miss Sarah Leinbach, daughter of Mr. Henry Leinbach of Montgomery Co., PA. {sic} [Northumberland County, Pennsylvania formerly of Berks Co. PA].
Four children were the fruit of this marriage, Henry L., John F., Mrs. Mary C. Lockhart and Mrs. Elizabeth C. Prentice, all of whom except Henry L., survive him.
He began active business life as a carpenter in his native place. After some years he removed to Niagara county, New York, but at the close of three years he removed, in 1852, to Illinois, and located in Fulton county, where he resided until 1876 when he came to Prairie City. For twenty five years this has been his home, a large circle of relatives and friends have grown up around him, among whom he has been known and respected as a kind hearted, upright man and a good citizen, benevolent to the poor, supporting religion, and in the quiet ways of an industrious life promoting the good order and well being of society. Thus the patriarchs of a past generation are passing away and their children and grand children take up their work and carry it forward into the new century.
The funeral services will be held in the Presbyterian church, Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by the Dr. S. H. Hyde. Interment in the Prairie City Cemetery. The burial rites will be preformed by Golden Gate lodge, A.F.&A.M. to which organization Mr. Hittle has been a member for more than thirty years.

*Note: On his Tombstone is has George HITTLE Death as 16 Mar 1901 but per obituary transcription it has 10th of March soooo we may have a typo as March 16th 1901 is actually a Saturday and 10th is a Monday.
