An Australian Test cricketer. He played 19 Tests for his country and was captain for 5 of these. He made a huge amount of runs in a lengthy career for State and country and was renowned as a brilliant fieldsman. When filling in as a wicketkeeper he even took 4 stumpings.

But he was not just a cricketer. He also played baseball for Australia; represented South Australia at golf; won a State tennis title; won three premierships at Australian Rules for Sturt, whom he captained and coached; and also was skilled in lacrosse, basketball and swimming.

As a further claim to fame he was the grandfather of the three Chappell brothers who all played Test cricket for Australia.

He has been commemorated in the naming of the Victor Richardson Gates at Adelaide Oval.
His 2nd wife was Peggy Patricia (nee Herbert) fmly Chandler Richardson, m.1946.
