According to an obituary, Amanda was the daughter of William and Rebecca Leary; her father dying in 1846 and her mother in 1850. They were said to have been pioneer residents of Fremont.

In the 1850 Census, Amanda is shown living with Robert H. and Ellen (Eleanor Leary) Caldwell as a 16-year old (and thus possibly born in 1834). Also in the household was a son Augustus and an eight-year old Louisa Gyatt born in New York. It is not clear who Louisa was, or what the relationship was between Amanda and Eleanor. When Eleanor died in 1868, however, Augustus was named the only lawful heir in court records. Augustus Brown was named administrator of the estate and guardian of Augustus as Robert Caldwell had died in California in 1853.

Also in 1868, several months after Eleanor's death, Amanda married James J. Eddy. Interestingly, the same court records indicate that Eleanor owed Amanda and her husband a sum of money which required the sale of real property to cover.

Amanda and James (or J.J.) continued to live in Fremont on Birchard Avenue. They did not have children. Amanda joined the M. E. church in 1884 and was one of the charter members of the Rebekah lodge. She was said to be "a great home woman and among her friends and associates was always highly esteemed and beloved."

Because her birth year was reported very differently over the course of her life, her age at death is unknown, but it was likely between 63 and 71 years.

As a footnote, it is worth mentioning that in the 1880 Census Amanda's name is given as Elizabeth. According to the obituary of Frank C. Culley, she was his aunt. Thus Emily Lary Culley (b. Marietta, Ohio) was her sister.
