Essie Evelyn Thompson Crosby
Birth: Jan. 5, 1916
Death: Sep. 21, 2002

Wife of Josiah S. Crosby

Essie was a very gentle lady, given to few words, and she never spoke ill of anyone. She loved her family and devoted her life to them. She was born to O.L. Thomson and Mattie Hair in Williamsburg County, one of seven children, attended a little one-room schoolhouse, and completed the 11th grade. Her mother died when she was young. She married Josiah Crosby on June 25, 1942, and they had 3 children: Oscar Josiah Crosby (6-18-1943), Evelyn Jennett Crosby (8-4-1945), and Mary Agnes Crosby (7-8-1949). Before marriage, she worked for the American Tobacco Company in Charleston, and lived at 2 locations there, the last (before her marriage) was at 28 Chapel Street. She and her sisters (Josephine and Mildred) were "very proper ladies", given to the Victorian principles for ladies to live by.

Hope you have an awesome day in heaven tomorrow, Mother. Dance across the clouds with Daddy and glow in the reflection of our Creator. Wish I were there to celebrate with you, but with the shape of the world today, it won't be long. I love you so much ...(Read more)

The holidays are coming on, Mama, and I hate them now that you and Daddy are gone. It's been 19 years since Daddy passed and 10 since you've been gone. So much has happened. I've wanted to talk to you so many times. I miss those weekend calls, and you...(Read more)
