Essie Evelyn Thompson Crosby
Birth: Jan. 5, 1916
Death: Sep. 21, 2002

Wife of Josiah S. Crosby

Essie was a very gentle lady, given to few words, and she never spoke ill of anyone. She loved her family and devoted her life to them. She was born to O.L. Thomson and Mattie Hair in Williamsburg County, one of seven children, attended a little one-room schoolhouse, and completed the 11th grade. Her mother died when she was young. She married Josiah Crosby on June 25, 1942, and they had 3 children: Oscar Josiah Crosby (6-18-1943), Evelyn Jennett Crosby (8-4-1945), and Mary Agnes Crosby (7-8-1949). Before marriage, she worked for the American Tobacco Company in Charleston, and lived at 2 locations there, the last (before her marriage) was at 28 Chapel Street. She and her sisters (Josephine and Mildred) were "very proper ladies", given to the Victorian principles for ladies to live by.

There is no love, like a motherís love, no stronger bond on earth...Like the precious bond that comes from God, to a mother, when she gives birth./ A motherís love is forever strong, never changing for all time... And when her children need her most, a m...(Read more)

Happy Mother's Day, Mama. I miss you more with each passing year. You and Daddy would not like the world we're living in today, and nor do I. I look forward to seeing you soon.
