Jacob was someone so very special; and he was so very special to all of us in his own unique way.

To those of you who knew Jacob you already are aware of the type of person he was so you already have him committed to memory. To those who were not as lucky, these words will give you a sense of the sort of young man he was and as a model for which we should all attempt.

He never spoke without something to say, never laughed unless something was funny, and was infinitely sincere in everything he did. Someone so real, so true.

Jacob had an uncanny ability to see into people, to look through you. He has been often described as a tender soul. He was pure of heart and had a distinct understanding for the world around him. He had a way with people that made them feel comfortable around him and infected others to gravitate toward him. Jacob radiated compassion and pulled generosity and selflessness out from everyone he touched. He was everyone's best friend. To say Jacob was polite is an understatement. Since his early years, he showed respect and caring for all around him.

Being around Jacob was a sight to behold. His keen fashion sense was clearly tucked away in the far recesses of his mind. As handsome as he looked in a fine tailored suit, it just didn’t seem right on him. He was right at home in an old T, skinny jeans and some torn slip-on sneakers, the older the better. To watch him sleep (and Jacob could sleep anywhere - anytime) mouth open. There was no drive too long or short where he couldn’t or wouldn’t sleep. We crossed the Mississippi twice on a cross-country trip, and yes, he missed it both times. As I had come to know, he rarely went to bed early. It appeared to him that practicing new skateboard moves in the garage after midnight was clearly an innovative idea, notwithstanding the fact that it was under my bedroom. The crack-crack-crack of the skateboard on the concrete that announced his imminent arrival, and music was not far behind.

Jacob enjoyed traveling and fortunately had the opportunity to see much of this country through family vacations, road trips, camping with family and friends. While some of the trips he planned will remain only as dreams I am heartened that he was able to experience the diversity of this world and am certain that his experiences were memorable by him and will forever remain with him.

With Jacob, what you saw -- was what you got. He was his own man, doing things his own way, giving life everything he had, getting from life all it had to offer that he wanted. His focus was very sharp, narrow, limited, but within that focus, he grabbed it all, and gave it his all. He lived without pretense and gave of his pure heart completely. He had more "best friends" than I can count, because he made each one of us feel like his best friend. As far as I could tell, Jacob never really treated anyone differently from anyone else. Jacob ignored both celebrity and authority.

Jacob was utterly unique. Compassionate. Generous. Kind. Jacob was not stingy with his love. He told us, and he showed us. He gave and gave and gave. Each of us knows how blessed we were to share a few moments on this earth with him.

Most of us can't hear a song without finding his memory, or watch a movie without seeing a part of him in it. He could lose himself indefinitely in his music and movies.

Jake's deft ability with his friendly sarcastic banter, a true family trait, will always be remembered. His delivery was spot-on.

Honest, simple, loyal and incredibly compassionate, he'll be missed beyond comprehension.

Jake's kind nature endeared himself to all who knew and loved him, and left a shinning example of how we all should live our lives.

He was a free spirit with a WILD heart, who is now, FOREVER WILD!

What a tough act to follow - He was the best of us all!
