German General. Knights Cross Holder. Commander of the LII Army Corps. He enlisted in the army in 1904 and rose through the ranks. As a first lieutenant, he was serving as the adjutant to Reserve Regiment 15 when war broke out. He was wounded early in the war on the Western Front and served as a staff officer in various units and was promoted to Captain. After the war he remained in the army but was mustered out in 1920 as a Major. He worked in Pomerania for the Border Patrol and was recalled to active service in 1934 as the Kommendant of Neustettin. In 1938, he was given the command of the 30th Infantry Division, with which he fought in the Battles of Poland and France. He was injured during the Battle of Poland and was honored with the Knights Cross in 1940 for his prevention of a Polish breakout during the Battle of the Bzura. His division was given the honor of passing in review during the victory parade in Paris in 1940. He took over command of the LII Army Corps in November, 1940 and was killed by a Russian air attack near Isjum, Ukraine, while serving on the Eastern Front. Along with the Knights Cross, his honors included the award of the Iron Cross First and Second Class during World War I and the same two medals during World War II, and he was also made a Knight of the House Order of Hohenzollern.
