| Birth: | Mar. 20, 1823 | | Death: | Jul. 9, 1895 |  U.S. Congressman, Physician. Born in Florence, Pennsylvania, he moved with his family to Ohio in 1835. He moved from Steubenville to Ashland County, Ohio to study medicine and later graduated from the Starling Medical College. He practiced as a physician in Ashland County until he became a member of the Ohio Legislature from 1855 to 1857. He resumed his medical profession in 1859. Elected as a Democrat to represent Ohio's 14th District in the United States House of Representatives, he served from 1875 to 1877. While a member of Congress, he was the chairman of the Committee on Militia and was an unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1876. He continued his practice as a physician until his death in 1895, in Ashland, Ohio. (bio by: K Guy)
