NEWPORT NEWS - Martha 'Bobbie' Moorhead Palmer, 88, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2011.
She was a native of Hartwell, Ga., and resident of the Peninsula for most of her life.
Martha was an active member at the New Covenant Church, as well as a past member of the Women's Club, Bridge Club, James River Country Club, and the Warwick Yacht Club. Martha also was a Girl Scout Leader for many years. Mrs. Palmer was a graduate of Young Harris College in Young Harris, Ga., and a 1st grade teacher at Hilton Elementary School. She also worked in the catalogue department for Avon of Newport News.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Bryan Bailey Palmer Sr.; two sons, Robert Bruce Palmer and Bryan Bailey Palmer Jr.; and two brothers, Ned Palmer and Henry Palmer.
Survivors include her daughters, Pamela Palmer Casey of Newport News, Laura Palmer Daniels of Fort Worth, Texas; three sisters, Eugenia Pickett, Virginia Newcomer and Louise Smith; grandchildren, Cadell Casey Lemis and her husband, David of Williamsburg, Bryan Craig Daniels and Sarah Elizabeth Daniels both of Fort Worth, Texas.; great-grandchildren, Taylor Bryant Casey, Mikael Andrew Lemis and Patrick Bailey Lemis all of Williamsburg.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2011, at Peninsula Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 30, at New Covenant Church officiated by Pastor Mark Johansson.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association , Southeastern Virginia Chapter, 6350 Center Drive, Suite 102 Norfolk, VA 23502.
