Dorothy Violet Beckwith was born in Seattle, King, Washington to Edward Beckwith of England and Minnie Brown, also of England. The family moved to Oakland, Alameda, California when Dorothy was a small child. She was raised in the old Foothill Blvd. and 13th Avenue area of Oakland. She attended St. Anthony's Catholic School with her best friend, Dorothy May Kelly. She never attended school past 8th grade but, due to her high aptitude for mathematics and a natural gift for business and organization, she did very well in her chosen career as a District Manager for See's Candies. She was married to Norman Easton Bergman and cared for him until his death from brain cancer (07 Dec 1958). No children were born of this marriage. She married Galliano Daneluz about 30 January 1961 in California. No children were born of this marriage. She was an energetic, gracious hostess to San Francisco Opera celebrities, maestros and other dignitaries in the Daneluz home in Los Altos and Menlo Park, California. At one time, she hosted and entertained the opera great, Luciano Pavarotti in the Daneluz home for two weeks. Dorothy loved music and always had the right magic touch in decorating her home as well as being an excellent cook. Although, she had no children of her own, she unofficially "adopted" daughters of close friends. She was engaged to Frank LeRoy Medlenka & had broken the engagement. He subsequently married Dorothy May Kelly. She remained very close friends with the couple and their daughter throughout their lifetimes. She also was very close to her old friend, Pearl, her daughter, Ester Armstrong and their family. Dorothy was loved by many and missed by all. She was the Grand Dame of the Peninsula and, when "Dan" (Galliano) was Chairman of the Board of Governors of the San Francisco Opera, she was considered a good friend and gracious lady to all with whom they associated.
