Titanic Survivor. She was born in the town of Ilford just outside of London. She was a seven year old second class passenger traveling with her parents to Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada at the time of the disaster. Her family boarded the Titanic in Southampton on the morning of April 10th. She was asleep at the time of the ship's collision with an iceberg during the late night hours of April 14th. She was rescued by the Carpathia along with her mother Esther in lifeboat 14 and arrived in New York City on Thursday April 18, 1912. Her father Benjamin died in the sinking of the ship and his body was never recovered. Following the disaster she returned to England with her mother who eventually remarried. Over the next several decades she became one of the most recognizable and prominent figures associated with the disaster, appearing in numerous television interviews and documentaries well into her 80s. She was awarded an M.B.E. (Member of the British Empire) by the British Government in 1974. Her autobiography "Shadow of the Titanic: A Survivors Story" appeared in print in 1994. She died in a London Hospice from cancer at the age of 91. At the time of her death there were only eight known living survivors from the Titanic sinking out of a total of 705 survivors rescued.
