Charles Madeja, prominent Polish-American businessman and civic leader, died Tuesday at St. James hospital after a short Illness. He was 65 years old.
Mr. Madeja resided at 1143 Salsted street where he operated a grocery store for the past 32 years. He was a director of the Citizens Federal Savings and Loan association, a past president of Polish Falcons Nest 42 and a member of Group 70, Poish National Alliance.
Born December 4, 1888, in Poland, he had been a Chicago Heights resident 44 years.
Funeral services are set for 9:30 a.m. tomorrow at St. Joseph's church. The Rev. John Peterson will officiate, and burial will be at Calvary cemetery.
Pall-bearers will be members of the Polish Falcons nest while Citizens Federal Savings and Loan association officers will serve as honorary pall-bearers.
Surviving are his wife, Rozalla; one daughter, Mrs. Emily Kosciolek of Chicago Heights; one son, Walter of Chicago Heights; three sisters, Mrs. Caroline Skwarlo of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Mrs. Rose Hutyra and Mrs. Mary Wolny of Rycerka, Poland; one brother, Joseph of Rycerka; and five granddaughters.
