Wesley was the son of John and Elizabeth Smee Shaner of Pennsylvania. He had siblings: Russell McMurray(5/06/1827-8/30/1905), Elizabeth Jane(7/11/1829-8/11/1843), Isaac(9/30/1831-11/11/1898), John (8/28/1833-4/04/1867), Thomas and twin Adam (10/30/1835-5/02/1863))and (10/30/1835-9/08/1868), Martha Ann (8/29/1838 who married Samuel Kennedy), Wesley(1/30/1841-3/16/1911),and Abiah(7/15/1847-12-25/1847)). He married Sarah Catherine Davenport on 1 September 1861 in Wood County, and they had Leander "Andy" (6/10/1862), Meltha Lorinda(7/27/1869), Flora Alma(6/03/1866), Volney Ethelbert "Ed" (5/11/1868), and Pearl D.(9/10/1871). He became an undertaker. Sarah died in March of 1872 leaving Wesley with five small children. His immediate second marriage was to Louisa Helen Fox, a school teacher, on 30 June 1872 in Perrysburg, Ohio. She died in Genoa, Ohio, in 1906. His third marriage was to (Mrs)Alfreda Goldwood on 30 January 1908 in Wood County. Wesley died of uremia at age 70.
