Died, on Friday, April 3, 1903, at 12 o'clock m., at his home in this city after a long illness, Mr. John E. Morgan, aged 77 years, 2 months and 1 day.

Mr. Morgan was the son and fifth child of Evan and Jane Morgan and was born at Merthyr Tydvil, South Wales, on Feb. 2, 1826. He came to America about fifty years and was married to Miss Elizabeth Jones at Scranton, Pa., in the year 1856. Eleven children were of their union but only three of them survive him. He and family moved to Portsmouth, Ohio in 1862, residing there until 1873, when they moved to Wilkesbarre, Pa. The family came to Missouri in 1876, bought a farm in Russell township north of New Cambria, this county, and engaged in farming until 1897, when they moved to Bevier and had since made their home here.

Mr. Morgan was stricken with paralysis about seven years ago, and had suffered a great deal since, and while he been able to go around, had never recovered from that attack He had been confined to his bed for nearly six weeks before his death with an attack of the grippe. Last week his condition improved some and he was able to go out a little around the house on Thursday. He was taken worse however that evening and died the following day at noon to the regret of all.

Mr. Morgan had been a faithful, zealous and consistent christian for over 63 years, having united with the Methodist denomination in his 14th year and from then until his death had never swerved from his allegiance to the cause of his Master. He possessed a remarkable memory and was well versed in the scriptures, active as a participant in church work and always liberal in contributing to the cause, and honored for his honesty and integrity. He was for many years a deacon of the Methodist church at Portsmouth, Ohio, and also of Brush Creek church, Russell township. Since he came to Bevier he had been a member of the Welsh Cong'l church and was esteemed and beloved by all. To mourn his death are left a wife and three daughters, Mrs. John A. Jones of Spring Valley, Ill., and Mrs.T.W. Griffiths and Mrs. L.A. Smith of Bevier. The sympathy of all is extended to the bereaved relatives.
