A two-time All-American at Fordham University and a member of the "Seven Blocks of Granite" offensive line of which Vince Lombardi was a guard. He was drafted in 1938 by the Detroit Lions and started at center. While he played the center position, he also played on the defensive side of the ball as a linebacker. He was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles into the 1946 season and was moved to the defense full-time. While there, he helped the team win the 1947 Eastern Division Championship and the World Championships the next two seasons. He was inducted into the Professional Football Hall of Fame in 1968.
