Ruth I. Boardman, 94, formerly of Port Byron, died Sunday, November 23, 2014 at Genesis Senior Living, Silvis, IL. Services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, November 28th at Gibson – Bode Funeral Home, Port Byron. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until the time of service at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, Port Byron.

Ruth was born July 12, 1920 in Rockdale, Illinois, the daughter of Fred A. and Anna F. (Naretty) Hanny. She married Charles A. Boardman on May 29, 1942 in Rock Island. They made their home in Port Byron and early in their marriage they operated the telephone switchboard from their home. Ruth was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in Port Byron and was a member of the Port Byron American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed watching the Cubs and Bulls play and in her later years liked playing Bingo and working word puzzles.

Ruth is survived by her two children and their spouses, Charles F. “Chuck” and Rosemary Boardman, Geneseo, IL, Carol and Fred Franks, Bettendorf, IA; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; and brothers, Fred Hanny in WWII and Gerald Hanny. The family would like to give special thanks to all the caregivers of Crosstown Square, Genesis Senior Living and Genesis Hospice.
