Mahaney's brother was Gabriel Benson Douthit, Justice of the Peace, Postmaster, Tax Collector, and Circuit Clerk in Benton (Calhoun Co.), Alabama. Their mother was Nancy Douthit who also moved from South Carolina to Alabama and lost in research was the name of the G.B. and Mahaney's father who probably died in South Carolina. Nancy was still living in 1840 in Benton Co., AL.

Mahaney married William Monroe Griffin on November 25, 1832 as recorded in her Bible. He died at age 48 leaving a widow and eleven children: Avarilla Griffin West, Nancy Vashti Griffin Vice, Elihu Haulby Griffin, Rosa Ann Malina Griffin Kelley, Gabriel Benson Douthit Griffin, Mary Elvira Griffin Boozer, Bailey Barton Griffin, John Vandiver Griffin, James Monroe Sargent Griffin, Margaret Jane "Jennie" Griffin Stephens, and Martha Frances Dorcas "Mattie" Griffin. Those buried in Shiloh Cemetery, Calhoun Co.: Avarilla, Vashti, Rosa, John V., James, and Mattie. G.B.D. died during the Civil War at Ft. Delaware and buried in Salem, New Jersey, but a memorial stone was placed by this submitter in Shiloh Cemetery near the graves of his parents. Mary is buried in Hokes Bluff Cemetery in Etowah Co., Bailey died in Tennessee, Jennie is buried in Duck Springs Cemetery in Etowah Co., and Elihu is buried in Pilgrims Rest Cemetery in Etowah Co. Mahaney's sons, James and Elihu, survived the Civil War.

Submitter, Nancy Griffin Lovvorn, is a great-granddaughter of William and Mahaney's son, Elihu Haulby Griffin, Sr.
