Mary Virginia Auwen (82) passed away 18 Nov 2014 in Pullman, Washington where she had lived for the past two years. Virginia was born 22 June 1932 in Moreland, Idaho to Leo L. and Mary H. Johnson. She had two older brothers and a younger sister. Virginia attended elementary school in Moreland and graduated from Snake River High School in 1950. In 1951 she married Joseph McGuire. Son Michael was born in 1952, while they were living in California, they were later divorced. Virginia and son Michael returned to Moreland and stayed with her mother. Virginia worked in Blackfoot and Idaho Falls for the telephone phone company. In 1957 she married Kenneth Smith of Blackfoot. Daughter Sharon was born in 1962 while the family was living in Key West. The family lived in several areas, including Japan, due to Ken being in the US Navy. When Ken retired from the Navy in 1971, the family returned to Blackfoot. She worked for a short time outside the home at A&W and Arctic Circle. Ken and Virginia were later divorced. Virginia married Bryan Auwen in 1974 and they made their home in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. While in Coeur d'Alene, they enjoyed going to garage sales and being members of the Fleet Reserve. She and Bryan enjoyed traveling throughout the United States visiting family and attending ship reunions. One of her most exciting trips was to Japan and China, especially because she didn't like to fly. Their love of travel took them anywhere else their hearts desired and they put thousands of miles on their cars, but her favorite place was always home. Bryan passed away in 2008. Virginia then moved to Pocatello to be closer to her sister Amy. She moved to Pullman, Washington in 2012 to be close to Sharon and her family.Virginia was preceded in death by her sweetheart Bryan, her parents, brothers Leo "Jay" Johnson and Alton, and recently, her younger sister Amy Adams. She is survived by her son Michael (his wife, Joy) Smith of Oklahoma City, OK; daughter Sharon (her husband, Stephen) Hall of Pullman, WA; and Bryan's children (who she loved like "her own"), Gretchen (her husband, James) Duffy of Tri-Cities, WA; Ruth (her husband, Ted) Leno of West Linn, OR and B.L. "Butch" (his wife, Linda) Auwen of Coeur d'Alene, ID. She leaves behind 14 fabulous and loving grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. The family wishes to thank all those who have cared for Virginia for the past year as she has undergone some difficult health issues. The funeral service will be held at the Moreland 1st Ward, Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-Day Saints, 740 West 175th North in Moreland at 11 AM on Monday, Nov. 24, 2014.
