He challenged the establishment with films like "491" (1964) and "I am curious - yellow" (1967), which attacked sexual conventions and taboos. Those films also made his name internationally. Through his career he directed some 15 films, the last one "Alfred" in 1995, about Swedish inventor Alfred Nobel. He made his debute as a writer in 1948 with the novel "Lektorn". One of his more noted books are "L 136 - a diary with Ingmar Bergman", based on interviews with the acclaimed director, with whom he was a very good friend. He also wrote many plays. In 2003 he received the "Ingmar Bergman Prize" for his struggle against commercial-breaks in films on TV. Cause of death: Stroke. (bio by: Peter Robsahm)
