Blair, Neb. - Evelyn Volk, age 66, of 1743 Lincoln St., Apt. #4, Blair, Neb., formerly of Faulkton, S.D., will be held 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 15, 2005, at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church. Burial will be in the Holy Cross Cemetery, Blair, Neb.

Evelyn passed away at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair on Thursday, Aug. 11, 2005, following a courageous battle with lung cancer.

She was born Evelyn Marie Couser Dec. 9, 1938, in Lake City, S.D., to the late Earl C. Couser and Margaret Hollander. She attended McKinley Township Rural School in Marshall County, S.D., through the eighth grade. She initially attended high school at Presentation School in Aberdeen, S.D., and graduated from Aberdeen Central in 1956.

Evelyn married Peter P. Volk on Sept. 15, 1958, and lived in Hague and Strasburg, N.D. In 1966, Evelyn and Peter moved to Wecota, S.D., where she began working for the Fuller Brush Company. She later worked at the Red Owl Grocery Store in Faulkton, S.D. Before her retirement in 2004, she managed the food and deli service at the Cenex Co-op in Faulkton for several years. Evelyn and Peter moved to Blair, Neb., in 2005.

Evelyn attended St. Thomas Catholic Church in Faulkton. Her greatest interests included her faith, family, specialized sewing and family ancestry. Evelyn's interest in family history began in grade school and since 1988 she worked toward compiling extensive histories of her and her husband's families. She published a two volume history of the Volk family in 1995 and completed extensive family registries of the Couser and Schaffner families.

Evelyn is survived by her husband, Peter; her children, Dennis Earl Volk (Starla), Rapid City, S.D., and Margaret Sue Stoltz (Allen), Blair, Neb.; sisters, Beverly Finkbeiner (Lester), Ipswich, S.D., and Virginia Matheson (Norman), DeFuniak Springs, Fla.; brother, Robert Couser (Sally), St. Paul, Minn.; five grandchildren, Dennis Scott Volk, Brooke Violet Waterbury, Derek Allen Stoltz, Travis John Stoltz and Hope Marie Stoltz; and two great-grandchildren, Luke Layton Volk and Lillie Anne Hazuka.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Eugene Marvin Couser.

In leu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family. Campbell-Aman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
