OBITUARY Iron River Reporter July 26 1938 "Old Gaastra Miner Dies Sunday Morn"
GAASTRA-A father of eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, Charles E. Peterson, died Sunday morning at 10 a.m. in his home.
Peterson had been ill for the past 12 months and had received medical attention from the university hospital at Ann Arbor. He was 72 years old and resided in Iron County since 1899.
Born in Sweden Sept. 1, 1866, Peterson came to the United States with his parents when he was 10 years of age. He lived in Iron Mountain and Florence, Wisconsin before moving to Iron County. He was employed in the Brule mine until 1930.
Surviving members of the family include his wife Hilda and seven children. Irving and Mae live at home. Arvid Peterson and Mrs. Byron Battye reside in Gaastra and Mrs. Ernest Trestrom [Friestrom], Edward Peterson and William Peterson live in Iron Mountain.
The funeral will be held from the home Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock. Reverand Fant will read the services and interment will take place in the family lot in Resthaven [Stambaugh] cemetery.
W.J. Johns, funeral director, is in charge of arrangements.

GAASTRA-Charles E. Peterson, 72 year old resident, was buried Wednesday in Resthaven [Stambaugh] cemetery. Rev. Carl Fant, pastor of the First Lutheran church, read the services.
A number of out of town residents were present at the funeral. From Iron Mountain there were Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Friestrom, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Peterson and children, Mr. and Mrs. William Peterson, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hoyle, Mr. and Mrs. Patty Flaminio, Mrs. Frank Freghetto, Mrs. Alberty Hoyle and George Hoyle.
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Lafreiniere, Mrs. Conrad Norman, and Mrs. Mary Anderson and their son Rufus came from Norway.
Mr. and Mrs. Ole Peterson and sons Raymond, Russell and Clarence came from Park Falls, Wisconsin, Miss Hanna Anderson was from Escanaba and Mrs. Cohen Fisher came from Gladstone.
Frank Plourde, Kyme Scuffham, John Smith, Edward Peterson, Frank Hughes and Eric Nystrom were pall-bearers.
