| Birth: | Oct. 24, 1951 | | Death: | Dec. 6, 1969 | American Folk Figure, Murder Victim. A young man of African-American descent, he was the audience member who was stabbed to death on December 6, 1969, by a Hells Angels biker gang member named Alan David Passaro, at the Altamont Speedway in California, during a concert by the Rolling Stones. The Hells Angels biker gang at the time had been hired by the Rolling Stones to work security at the concert. Passaro was later charged with Hunter's murder and arrested and charged but he claimed self-defense and he was later acquitted. He was found dead in 1985 floating in the Anderson Reservoir with $10,000 in his pocket. The story was the focus of the 1970 film, "Gimme Shelter," and is also the focus of an urban legend that states that the song, 'Sympathy For The Devil,' was playing during the murder, but it was actually 'Under My Thumb,' that was playing. On May 21, 2005, the Alameda County, Sheriff's Office officially announced that the case was closing. (bio by: K)
