Major League Baseball Player. The right-hander first pitched for the Philadelphia Phillies from 1938 to 1942, then after three years in the military, he took the mound for them again in 1946. He also was with the Chicago White Sox in 1948. He didn't have much success with the last-place teams, going 2-13 with a 5.76 earned run average in 1939, 3-14 with a 5.45 ERA in 1940 and 4-14 with a 3.57 ERA in 1941. During the latter season he was 4-4 with a 2.07 ERA with six saves in relief, leaving him 0-10 as a starter. His lifetime statistics were 13-50 with a 4.83 ERA and 10 complete games in 54 starts. (bio by: Ron Coons)
