Bessie was born in El Reno, Oklahoma, and raised mainly in the Pittsburg County area. Bessie's father was Benjamin Franklin "Ben" McCutchan, a brickmason and contractor by trade, and horse jockey by hobby, that was born in Carthage, Missouri. Bessie's mother was Gertrude "Gertie" Springston, who was born in Evansville, Indiana.

Bessie's grandfather, John Benjamin McCutchan (Born in McCutchanville) was the first McCutchan in her direct line to be born in America; her great-grandfather William, Jr., and great-great-grandfather and grandmother, William McCutchan and Mary Ann Vickerstaff emigrated from Ireland. The family settled in New York State first, and later McCutchanville, Indiana, which the McCutchans founded.

Bessie's father's heritage was Irish, Scottish, and English.

Bessie's mother's family lived in Indiana, Kentucky, and New York; her heritage consisted of Scottish, Irish, English, and Dutch.

In 1925, at the age of 29, Bessie married Edward Lee Baldwin.

Bessie and Edward were the parents of Dorothy Nadine "Nadine" Baldwin, and Edward Benjamin "Bud" Baldwin.

They settled in the Blanco area, and raised their children there.

Bessie lived on a farm with her family; she farmed, took care of the children, cooked home made food, did a lot of canning of fruit and vegetables, and made her children's clothing. She and Edward loved spending time with their family, most of all, and didn't care much for material possessions.

Bessie had two siblings: Julia McCutchan-Chambers, who married James Dewey "Dewey" Chambers, who was a brickmason and worked at times with her father, and John Benjamin "John B" McCutchan, who died of Tuberculosis, at the age of 22, in San Antonio, Texas, where he was working as a bricklayer.

Bessie also had a niece, who passed away at a young age; Sybil Rosetta Chambers was the adopted daughter of Julia McCutchan and James Dewey "Dewey" Chambers. Sybil had Rheumatic Fever that weakened her heart, after suffering for a few years, she passed away at the age of 12. Sybil was close to Bessie's daughter, Nadine.

Bessie suffered from what would now be diagnosed as Early-onset Alzheimer's Disease. My grandmother, her daughter, told me that her mind started going in her late 40s, and was bad by her early 50s. Bessie died at the age of 66, in McAlester.
