THE REV. FATHER EDWARD MICHAEL FOSTER, 86, passed away on Sunday, November 10, 2013 at Bon Secours Hospital in County Cork, Cork, Ireland. Father Foster was born February 10, 1927 in Garda Station; Crosshaven, County Cork, Ireland to James and Norah Foster.

After graduating from All Hallows Seminary in Dublin, he was ordained for the Diocese of Duluth in Minnesota on June 17, 1951 by Bishop Austin Quinn at All Hallows.

Father Foster served as an Associate Pastor in Minnesota at St. Francis of Assisi Church, Brainerd; Our Lady of Lourdes, Virginia, and St. John's Church, Duluth. In 1958 he was named pastor at St. Michael's Church in Kerrick and Our Lady of Victory, Holyoak.

In 1960 he began service as pastor of Minnesota parishes: Immaculate Heart Church, Crosslake, and St. Emily, Emily. From 1962 to 1985 he was resident pastor of Immaculate Heart Church, then from 1985 to 1988, pastor of Immaculate Conception in Pine City. Then finally, he was pastor of Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Pine River from 1988 to his retirement in 2003.

Fr. Foster arranged for the building of the Summer Church in Crosslake in 1971 and he had the rectory previously built in 1962.

He began The African Well Project for building water wells in Africa, an ongoing project to find and supply water.

He was a regular writing contributor to various publications and his deep sense of understanding and his charity to others were manifest in his writings on many subjects. Within his subjects he articulated his deep devotion to God, the Roman Catholic Church and his desire to serve others!

Father Foster was a very close personal friend to Meredith A. Disney and her sons Charles Elias Disney and Daniel H. Disney. They shared many years enjoying "just being with one another!" Father was also a close friend to Roy Edward and Patricia Ann Dailey Disney as a result of being introduced by Meredith A. Disney and her sons. Roy invited Father Foster to membership in The Royal Cork Yacht Club in Crosshaven, County Cork, Ireland where Roy competed in races with his yacht he named "Pyewacket!" When Roy E. Disney was nearing death, Father Foster and Roy's first cousins Charles Elias Disney and Daniel H. Disney visited him early on Sunday morning, December 13, 2009 in Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian in Newport Beach, California when Fr. Foster administed the Roman Catholic Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick, and Father Foster then heard what was likely Roy's final confession.

Father Foster was firm in his Catholic faith and he encouraged others to pray each day and to seek and to love God in everyone and everything and in everday life!

Father Foster petitioned Rome to allow for Saturday evening Masses in Crosslake throughout the summer seasons because of the huge amounts of Catholics coming from near and far to attend Mass. His petition was granted and Saturday evening Masses have been a regular mainstay ever since!

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Bob, Jim and Thomas. Fr. Foster is survived by his brother Michael (Terry); his sister, Sister Noreen, PBVM and sisters-in-law Sheila (Bob) and Clair (Jim).

Mass of Christian Burial was held on Wednesday, November 13, 2013 in St. Bridget's Catholic Church in Crosshaven, Co. Cork, Ireland.

Father Foster was interred in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Crosshaven, County Cork, Ireland.

"May Father Foster Rest in peace"
(from Latin: Requiescat in pace)
