"Loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, aunt and dear friend was called home to her Lord and Savior on Sunday, November 15, 2020, while under the care of Hoyt Nursing and Rehab Center. She passed away just 8 days before her 100th birthday. Dorothy Ann (Hoernlein) Fess was born on November 23, 1920, in Saginaw, to the late John and Julia (Weiss) Hoernlein. She was married to Harold H. Fess on June 15, 1946, in Saginaw, where he predeceased her on October 23, 1972. She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and its Altar Guild and Choir. Dorothy loved crocheting and needlepoint, cooking, baking and spending time in the yard. Mostly, she cherished the countless hours she spent with her family. Dorothy worked in housekeeping many years for Arrow Paper Products Co., retiring in 2000. She continued working as a personal housekeeper during her employment and following her retirement.

Surviving are her three children and their spouses, Diane M. (Rick L.) Michael, Saginaw, MI; William J. (Carol A.) Fess, Freeland, MI; Connie J. Fess (Daniel Griffin), Traverse City, MI; her daughter-in-law, Susan J. Fess, St. Johns, MI; nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends. Dorothy was also predeceased by her infant daughter, Kathleen Fess; her grandson, Jeffery Fess; her son, Larry A. Fess; her three brothers and one sister, Elmer, Wilbert, Robert and Adeline Hoernlein, and her loving "fur friends" Sunny and Sandy.

Due to the on-going health crisis, distancing is requested and masks are required. The Celebration of Dorothy's Life will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 19, 2020, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 808 Weiss, Saginaw, Michigan, with her funeral service beginning at 2:00 p.m. The Rev. Michael R. Korte will officiate. Dorothy will then be laid to rest, next to her husband, in Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
