Gertrude (Addink) DeGroot, 92, of Sioux Center died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2004, at Sioux Center Community Nursing Facility.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at First Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center, with Dr. John B. Hulst officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 7 to 8 p.m., at Memorial Funeral Home in Sioux Center.

Gertrude (Addink) DeGroot was born near Doon, Iowa, on Feb. 13, 1911, to John and Jennie (Lammers) Addink. She was raised on the family farm, five miles southwest of Sioux Center, and attended a country school near by.

On Feb. 13, 1951, she was united in marriage to John R. DeGroot in Sioux Center. The couple farmed southwest of Sioux Center until retiring and moving to their home in Sioux Center in 1969. John preceded her in death on May 11, 1971.

She was a member of First Christian Reformed Church. It would be an understatement to say she was a talented cook. As a teenager and young woman, she did the cooking for the Addink household. She was also known for her exceptional baked goods. Over the years, she crocheted many beautiful items.

She is survived by two sisters, Alice (Mrs. Peter) DeGroot of Sioux Center and Hattie and her husband, Bill Ver Doorn, of Hospers, Iowa; two brothers and their wives, Dick and Hilda Addink of Sioux Center and Henry and Mary Addink of Orange City, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents; and two sisters, Dena (Mrs. Albert) Van Riesen and Minnie (Mrs. John) Byl.
