|Birth: ||Jan. 12, 1827|
|Death: ||Oct. 15, 1915|
Daughter of Adam Beard and Margaret Ennis Crouch of Bedford County, Virginia.
Wife of Francis Everett Amsberry of Mason County, West Virginia; married on 03 March 1848 in Mason County, West Virginia.
Came with her husband and children to Mason City, Custer County, Nebraska in March, 1885.
"Lucy Caroline Beard was born near Lynchburg, Virginia, January 12, 1827, the daughter of Adam and Margaret Crouch Beard and died 10:20 a.m. October 15, being 88 years, 9 months and 3 days old. At the age of 12 she moved with her parents to Mason, West Virginia where she was married March 2, 1848 to Francis E. Amsberry. To this union were born 7 daughters and 5 sons as follows: J.M. of Summerville, Oregon, Mrs. L.E. Coleman, Ballentine, Montana, Mrs. Chas. Amsberry, Berwyn, Nebraska, Mrs. W.G. Frazey, Ansley, Nebraska, Mesdames Nick Peterson, J.N. Greenlee and C.C. Fisher, J.A., W.D., Martha M. and F.A., all of Mason City, and Floyd M., deceased. All remaining to mourn her loss but the one son and the husband who preceded her to the better world 18 years ago.
Deceased united with the Regular Predestinearian Church in 1866, being a devoted Christian and a firm believer in the doctrine of salvation by grace.
Hers was a lingering illness which she suffered much with great patience, constantly praying to be taken away from suffering.
Besides the eleven living sons and daughters, Mother Amsberry leaves 53 grandchildren and 63 great-grandchildren, besides numerous other relatives, including nephews and nieces, nearly all of whom live in Custer County.
Mrs. Amsberry, in her active years, wielded great influence over all her numerous relatives and her wishes and pleasures were respected and revered by all from the gray-haired sons and daughters to the youngest grandchildren.
The esteem in which this venerable pioneer mother was held in this community in which she lived since 1884 was attested by the large number of people who attended the funeral services held at the family home, Sunday forenoon. A sermon was preached by Elder Cooper of York and internment was made in the cemetery on the old homestead."
