Son of Samuel Mullinnix and Alma Mayfield Mullinnix.

He lived in the San Fernando Valley and worked as a machinist at Lockheed before joining the Marine Corps.

Second Lieutenant, USMC. Was assigned to VMF-312, 32nd Marine Air Group, 3rd Marine Air Wing, which earlier that year was flying out of Page Field, Parris Island, South Carolina. USMC casualty records show he was stationed at MCAS Cherry Point at the time of his death but based on the location of his crash it seems more likely he was still flying out of Parris Island at the time of his death.

MAG 32 was based out of MCAS Cherry Point in North Carolina but VMF 312 was attached to MAG 31 up until August 1943 so this may have resulted in some confusion in the Marine Corps records. VMF 312 continued to be stationed at Parris Island until January 1944 when it moved to Miramar before proceeding to Hawaii and then the South Pacific later that year.

Lt. Mullinnix was killed in the crash of an aircraft he was piloting.
